Oh-BA-MA

Posted by Sharvari on 21/01/2009
Wow! What a man! A great son, a great husband, a great father and now a great(I m assuming) president. A lot has been spoken about him and people know a lot about him. I ll just say what i liked about the man. He is a gentleman in all true sense of terms. What amazing guts he has got! With that just a bit of unusual warmth. I say unusual, because it does not come so naturally to strong-headed people like him. In some parts of his book, 'The Audacity of Hope' he talks about his wife Michelle. He says had his wife contested against him, he would have lost hands down to her. he says and I quote, 'Some people who have heard my wife speak at times come up to me and say 'Obama, we think the world of you, but your wife-WOW!' Who would talk about his wife like that? They have one simple but amazing love story. I was just overwhelmed by the way they were together yesterday. It was not a formal arm-in-arm but a very informal hand-in hand! That speaks volumes about their relationship. I am no entity to comment on his personal life. But just his simplicity appeals to me. I wish him all the best and may he bring about the change he wants to bring about.

PS: I told my Mom,'Ma, get me a man like that and I ll get married the next day!'

Firstly, America will always be America. Even during the times of Franklin Roosevelt and J.F.K, both highly hailed presidents, USA never came to anybody's aid unless it affected them. Russia on the other hand, was ready to help provided you were socialist too.
Secondly, I think expectations from Obama are very high for two reasons--one that he was a candidate with a different ideology (Democratic)than the World No.3 terrorist George Bush and secondly, because he's non-white. But he may soon find that however noble his intentions, he's weighed down by technicalities and party lines.
Having said that, through media hype or sheer bandwagon tendency, I've become a fan of Obama. (While he and Hillary Clinton were contesting I supported Hillary for reasons obvious to you). I hope he brings in a new, fresh era and puts at least the first nail in the coffin of terrorism. Lets wait and watch.

yes i hope so too! Well he has taken a step towards eradicating terrorism. He said,'Aid to our neighbours(u know who) will depend on its action.' Applause for that! And Hillary being the Secretary of State it seems possible... Atleast these guys have moved from dialogues to dictats.

That situation in Pakistan is going to blow up during his administration. The Taliban are just 430 kms from India's Wagah borders. The way things are going, they'll have Pakistan soon. And then? What about the nuclear weapons that Pak has? What about India's own sovereignity? That's why it's all gonna explode soon. It has to. The Taliban are 130 kms from Islamabad (which effectively means 130 kms from mainland Pakistan). So one just feels that the time's coming for some big war, perhaps one involving not just India and Pakistan but USA and other countries too. Something's got to give.

y do u think he wants to remove trrops from Iran and deploy them in Afghanistan. He has foreseen the upcoming war, which can be avoided. It will take a great deal of efforts from heads of all states to solve this one big problem, which is somewhat impossible to expect. But as Obama says,'Yes we can!', there is no harm in hoping!

And for the sake of maintaining sanity, I have not got down to the task of calculating how far Karachi is from Mumbai!
